about

Written with my old friend and bandmate Alvin Lingenfelter as we drove either to or from Jackson, MS. We always passed Hazel's Fruit Stand on Hwy 49 and wrote a weird little song about it. Never actually went there, though.

lyrics

Hazel's Fruit Stand
is where I met my true love
she was thumping melons and squeezing tomatoes
she was ripe already

I asked her about her favorite fruit
she ignored me at first and only bought a few things

Took her to the top of a telephone pole
and we listened to everyone's conversations
she ate an apple and I had a pear
wasn't a lot to say up there

Take me there

So we got down
and paid Hazel for her time
and became granules of sugar
